The Unfathomable Blue is a set of piano works written by British composer Richard Nye after seeing the ‘Heaven & Earth’ paintings at the Crane Kalman Gallery. Richard writes ‘In the summer of 2011, I was invited to an exhibition of Nick’s work in London and selected three pictures on which to base my pieces. The Last of the Day: Winter, The Hallowing Fire and The Unfathomable Blue. The paintings are striking, abstract and at a first glance quite simple. On closer inspection they reveal complex textures and contrasting colours which I have tried to reflect in the three movements.’ You can listen to the three movements of ‘The Unfathomable Blue’ here.
